His First Fish Porridge - Yucksss!!!

Today, I gave Jacob his first taste of fish porridge and his facial expression says it all. He hates it. I thought the porridge would be palatable since he liked the Heinz rice cereal so much but to my amazement, he just didn't like it. When I put the first spoon into his mouth, he let out a funny facial expression, the kind that says "Yucks!" and he made a choking noise. The food lingered in his mouth for barely one minute and he spat it out.

Then, I tried again with a second spoon. He cast me the same kind of expression he did earlier. At the third feed, he let out a choking noise and threw up everthing including the milk I fed him about an hour before the porridge. The bed sheet was a mess, his vomit drenched the latex matress and had to be sent for washing. I had just changed the matress cover this morning so imagine my frustration. Ironically, my little boy was smiling and laughing after the entire fiasco. He was laughing when I took off his clothes to clean. He probably thought he did a wise thing throwing up. Funny kid but extremely adorable.

In the evening I fed him again. However, this time he was a little bit receptive and showed no sign of dislike. I was surprised. He took in a few spoons and that was it. He didn't want them any more.

For his porridge, I used red snapper fillet and nothing else. No salt, so soya sauce or other condiments. Dr Lee advised to let Jacob try one thing at a time. First with fish, followed by chicken and vegetable, then mix everything into one. He said that this is to ascertain if he is allergic to any type of food. He had also advised us to introduce boiled eggs into his meal when he is between 8 and 10 months old.

Well, fish porridge was a good headstart. He doesn't like but he will eventually.
